Statement on SB 20 & HB 190

As of July 1st 2023, SB 20, otherwise known as the “Monster Abortion Ban”, went into effect for North Carolina. The partial and temporary block provided by the Supreme Court of North Carolina granted us until July 14th, 2023 on the provision around MAB as well as until October 1st for survivors of sexual assault. We owe a huge THANK YOU to our partners who took to the courts in action and inspired HB 190. This bill was filed to provide clarity and harm mitigation for our clinics and providers. 

We have suffered extreme loss of bodily autonomy, agency and freedom in not just our state but the entire country. Within one month, we experienced rollbacks on affirmative action, gender affirming care for our children and teens, queer existence and joy, abortion and reproductive freedom. There is so much to mourn and thus, so much more to fight for. 

We will continue to fight towards a brighter future, and access without barriers. We remain committed to funding abortions in North and South Carolina and in solidarity with abortion seekers everywhere.
