SC Supreme Court Strikes Down 6 Week Ban, 1/5/2023
On our first week back, we arrive dancing to the resounding and powerful voices of South Carolina’s activists, advocates, lobbyists, and most importantly the people. After a restorative reset over the new year, we return to breaking news that the South Carolina Supreme Court struck down the 6 Week Ban on abortion.
This win is a reflection of resistance on every front. Folks who testify, testified; Folks who research, researched, and shared no matter the time of night or day; the folks who rally, rallied. The folks who write, wrote. The folks who march, marched. The people who render aid, aided. The people who care, who pray, who hold, who move, who agitate, took their power and exhausted it down to our plan z’s.
Defeating the 6 Week Ban in the Supreme Court as well as the near total ban this summer serve as a powerful foundation to work from in South Carolina, and fills us with limitless gratitude to our partners, friends and organizations that helped shift change. These sacred moments of joy fuel our fire through an inevitable year of vicious attacks on our autonomy and our access to it.
On the ground, we have a saying:
“The people, united, will never be defeated.”
We close our days out today with this on the forefront of our minds.
