Election 2024
America’s history is not a mosaic of incredible saviors in power; in fact, America has always been the opposite.
Abortion funds were not founded because the government sought to see abortion access protected; it is and has been quite the opposite since our inception.
Our favorite activists are here today within this movement, not because the movement invited us in. We were forced here, like millions of Americans who just joined the movement on the 5th know, as millions before have known. We are a part of this movement by sheer force, by sheer opposition to the powers that be.
In the days and weeks that follow, existing apparatuses will seek to explain this loss, but what we know will remain unsaid: Reproductive Justice connects us to climate justice, housing justice, and all social justice; the failure to expand our frameworks beyond reproductive rights when we had the time will play its role. We cannot protect abortion if we cannot conceptualize how it is connected to everything around us.
There are no words for the grief we feel and the horrors we will witness. We, as abortion advocates, are on the eve of so much darkness, knowing this will be the birthing place of our better resistance. Though we were forced into this movement, we were given this movement, this framework, and the will to outlast as a gift. We at CAF have always known that our liberation would not be found within the electoral system. We remember what it meant to fund in spite, working with the grief that resists the death of Hope.
Our liberation is found in our comrades and colleagues, in the realness of existing in community at this very moment. Our liberation is found in the power of the now, grabbing contraceptives where we can, sharing information far and wide, and funding abortions every day that our line is open. In an administration that will detest us for just being, we resist through the joy that is doing just that.
Onward.
