Another Roe Anniversary (1.22.24)

Is there anything new to say about Roe? Is it useful for us to try?

Today would have been the fifty-first anniversary of Roe v. Wade–a decision that should have been the building block for a better, more liberated reproductive future. Instead, Roe had a death date; a door shut after a slow erosion of promises made on January 22nd, 1973. We remember Roe both for what it was, and what it could have been. We honor those who made it a reality by imagining more in its wake.

This month, we had to close the helpline on January 17th--after pledging $65,000 to callers seeking compassionate abortion care. We are immensely proud of this figure–and yet, as always, we remain focused on how many more callers we wanted to support financially. We are grateful to exist within a constellation of funds and advocates who help us bridge the gaps, and deeply thankful to our donors who make each “yes” possible.

If you’re so inclined, consider making a donation to your local fund (if that’s us–thank you, thank you, thank you) to make abortion care possible for someone who needs it. We do not have the luxury of mourning; we are praying with our feet, we are connecting the dots, we are holding someone’s hand in the waiting room, helping them walk toward their future and reminding them of their power. Our power.
