Greenville (12/4/23)
Greenville Women’s Clinic is being targeted by Greenville County Councilman Stan Tzouvelekas who is proposing a resolution to revoke the business licensure of as well as close the clinic, citing it as a public nuisance and threat to the health, safety and welfare of the community. FULL STOP: Three clinics for 49 counties is already a threat to the health, safety and wellness of the community. Losing one of these threee clinics will be devastating for South Carolinians. The PEOPLE are who pay the brunt of politicizing basic healthcare.
In solidarity with the Upstate Clinic Defenders, we echo their Calls to Action:
– Greenville residents, come early to testify at 4pm and pack the room
– GWC Supporters in SC, feel free to come and support Greenville’s doctors, defenders and patients by showing up in solidarity

This is not the only news out of Greenville in the last few days. Over the weekend, charges against the woman accused of allegedly self-administering abortion pills in 2021 were dropped. A warrant was issued in September 2022, and was aided by a police report filed by hospital administrators. As we articulated when the news of this case first broke last year: hospitals should not be staging grounds for law enforcement. Criminalizing pregnancy outcomes, regardless of circumstance, harms us all. We are grateful that this individual will not face further harassment over the end of her pregnancy–but remain vigilant for future attempts to criminalize ANY pregnancy outcome of ANY South Carolinian.
